# Walgreens vs Dollar General

The clearest difference is ads: Dollar General at none against Walgreens's shown. Dollar General also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Walgreens's advantage is review sentiment (60% vs 42%) and chart position (#3 vs #37). On price, rating, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Walgreens against 4.8 for Dollar General. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Walgreens has 7.3M ratings behind it against 1.1M, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 60% of Walgreens's written reviews are positive against 42% of Dollar General's.

Walgreens ships an update fortnightly, Dollar General every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 23, 2026.
