# Explore Shanghai vs Shanghai Rail Map Lite

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Shanghai Rail Map Lite at none against Explore Shanghai's 1. Shanghai Rail Map Lite also leads on ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (100% vs 80%). Explore Shanghai's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.4) and ratings volume (1.3K vs 8). On price, update cadence and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Explore Shanghai sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Shanghai Rail Map Lite asks for nothing beyond the download.

Explore Shanghai holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Explore Shanghai has 1.3K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 80% of Explore Shanghai's written reviews are positive against 100% of Shanghai Rail Map Lite's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
