# MacMost vs The Great Courses

The clearest difference is rating: The Great Courses at 4.8 against MacMost's 4.0. The Great Courses also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 45 months) and ratings volume (17K vs 9). MacMost's advantage is review sentiment (82% vs 40%) and in-app purchases (none vs 3). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. The Great Courses sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per month. MacMost asks for nothing beyond the download.

The Great Courses holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: The Great Courses has 17K ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 82% of MacMost's written reviews are positive against 40% of The Great Courses's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

MacMost ships an update every 45 months, The Great Courses fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
