# OPlayer vs SofaPlay

The clearest difference is price: SofaPlay at Free against OPlayer's $2.99. SofaPlay also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 2 months) and iOS requirement (10.3 vs 12.0). OPlayer's advantage is review sentiment (70% vs 25%) and ratings volume (961 vs 33). On rating, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

SofaPlay is free to download; OPlayer costs $2.99 up front. OPlayer sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and SofaPlay sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for OPlayer against 4.5 for SofaPlay. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: OPlayer has 961 ratings behind it against 33, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 70% of OPlayer's written reviews are positive against 25% of SofaPlay's.

OPlayer ships an update every 2 months, SofaPlay monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 18, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
