# Self Timer vs Shadowing Player

The clearest difference is rating: Self Timer at 3.8 against Shadowing Player's 3.3. Self Timer also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (22 vs 3). Shadowing Player's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 7 months) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 18.6). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Self Timer sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Shadowing Player sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Self Timer holds the better App Store score, 3.8 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Self Timer has 22 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 80% of Self Timer's written reviews are positive against 85% of Shadowing Player's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Self Timer ships an update every 7 months, Shadowing Player every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 27, 2026 and September 28, 2026 respectively.
