# Current Altitude vs Mountain Identifier

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Current Altitude at 72% against Mountain Identifier's 33%. Current Altitude also leads on ratings volume (19K vs 6) and rating (4.8 vs 4.5). Mountain Identifier's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 5 months vs every 14 months). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Current Altitude sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Mountain Identifier sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Current Altitude holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Current Altitude has 19K ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 72% of Current Altitude's written reviews are positive against 33% of Mountain Identifier's.

Current Altitude ships an update every 14 months, Mountain Identifier every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and November 1, 2026 respectively.
