# ZenShell vs Cat Halloween

The clearest difference is ads: ZenShell at none against Cat Halloween's shown. ZenShell also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 9 months) and review sentiment (100% vs 86%). Cat Halloween's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.8). On price, ratings volume, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Cat Halloween holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 5 and 4 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of ZenShell's written reviews are positive against 86% of Cat Halloween's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

ZenShell ships an update every 2 months, Cat Halloween every 9 months. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
