# Moby Dick! vs Vela Reader

The clearest difference is rating: Vela Reader at 5.0 against Moby Dick!'s 4.4. Moby Dick!'s advantage is monetization model (free vs freemium) and ratings volume (23 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Moby Dick! sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Vela Reader sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Vela Reader holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Moby Dick! has 23 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Moby Dick! ships an update every 2 weeks, Vela Reader every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
