# Youdao Dictionary vs Fan · 繁

The clearest difference is ads: Fan · 繁 at none against Youdao Dictionary's shown. Fan · 繁 also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 73%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 14.0). Youdao Dictionary's advantage is ratings volume (18K vs 6) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs monthly). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Youdao Dictionary sells 19 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and Fan · 繁 sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Youdao Dictionary against 4.8 for Fan · 繁. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Youdao Dictionary has 18K ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 73% of Youdao Dictionary's written reviews are positive against 100% of Fan · 繁's.

Youdao Dictionary ships an update every 2 weeks, Fan · 繁 monthly. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
