# KakaoTalk vs VChat

KakaoTalk and VChat both sit at 4.4 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of VChat's written reviews are positive against 31% of KakaoTalk's. VChat also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 14) and ads (none vs shown). KakaoTalk's advantage is ratings volume (48K vs 10) and chart position (#114 vs unranked). On price, rating, update cadence and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. KakaoTalk sells 13 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. VChat asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.4 for KakaoTalk against 4.5 for VChat. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: KakaoTalk has 48K ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 31% of KakaoTalk's written reviews are positive against 100% of VChat's.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
