# Mac4Ever HD vs Journal du Geek

The clearest difference is rating: Journal du Geek at 5.0 against Mac4Ever HD's 4.4. Journal du Geek also leads on monetization model (ad-supported vs free with in-app purchases) and device support (3 vs 1). Mac4Ever HD's advantage is update cadence (every 3 months vs every 33 months) and review sentiment (56% vs 31%). On price, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Journal du Geek holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mac4Ever HD has 16 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 56% of Mac4Ever HD's written reviews are positive against 31% of Journal du Geek's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Mac4Ever HD ships an update every 3 months, Journal du Geek every 33 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 2, 2026 respectively.
