# CharMap vs Font Maker

The clearest difference is rating: CharMap at 4.0 against Font Maker's 2.9. CharMap also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). Font Maker's advantage is review sentiment (70% vs 54%) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 4 months). On price, ratings volume, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

CharMap holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 2.9. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 57 and 79 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 54% of CharMap's written reviews are positive against 70% of Font Maker's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

CharMap ships an update every 4 months, Font Maker every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
