# Substitutions vs Tastemade Cooking

The clearest difference is price: Tastemade Cooking at Free against Substitutions's $1.99. Tastemade Cooking also leads on rating (4.8 vs 3.4) and ratings volume (1.2K vs 29). Substitutions's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 2) and ads (none vs shown). On chart position and device support there is nothing between them.

Tastemade Cooking is free to download; Substitutions costs $1.99 up front. Tastemade Cooking sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Substitutions asks for nothing beyond the download.

Tastemade Cooking holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Tastemade Cooking has 1.2K ratings behind it against 29, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Substitutions's written reviews are positive against 37% of Tastemade Cooking's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Substitutions ships an update every 2 months, Tastemade Cooking fortnightly. Both last shipped on October 21, 2026.
