Helpmate Puzzles holds the better App Store score, 3.3 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Helpmate Puzzles has 7 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 17% of Helpmate Puzzles's written reviews are positive against 50% of Chess Board's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Helpmate Puzzles ships an update every 7 months, Chess Board every 59 months. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
