# Apple Store vs Fortress

The clearest difference is rating: Fortress at 4.0 against Apple Store's 3.5. Fortress also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months) and iOS requirement (16.0 vs 18.0). Apple Store's advantage is ratings volume (172K vs 66) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Fortress holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Apple Store has 172K ratings behind it against 66, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 29% of Apple Store's written reviews are positive against 18% of Fortress's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Apple Store ships an update every 2 months, Fortress fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 7, 2026 and November 6, 2026 respectively.
