# Cine vs TheaterEars

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Cine at none against TheaterEars's 6. Cine also leads on ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (95% vs 61%). TheaterEars's advantage is rating (4.9 vs 4.4) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 3 months). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. TheaterEars sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Cine asks for nothing beyond the download.

TheaterEars holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TheaterEars has 58K ratings behind it against 48, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 95% of Cine's written reviews are positive against 61% of TheaterEars's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Cine ships an update every 3 months, TheaterEars every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
