# Find My iPhone vs Prey

The clearest difference is rating: Prey at 4.6 against Find My iPhone's 4.1. Prey also leads on update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 3 months). Find My iPhone's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 15.6). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Prey holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.1. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 10K and 4K respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 58% of Find My iPhone's written reviews are positive against 57% of Prey's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Find My iPhone ships an update every 3 months, Prey every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
