# TED Talks vs SmartFour

The clearest difference is rating: TED Talks at 4.6 against SmartFour's 4.0. TED Talks also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (10K vs 4). SmartFour's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and review sentiment (57% vs 44%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

TED Talks holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TED Talks has 10K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 44% of TED Talks's written reviews are positive against 57% of SmartFour's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

TED Talks ships an update fortnightly, SmartFour every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
