# Calculators XL vs Epson DocumentScan

The clearest difference is price: Epson DocumentScan at Free against Calculators XL's $2.99. Epson DocumentScan also leads on update cadence (every 3 months vs every 25 months) and ratings volume (121 vs 4). Calculators XL's advantage is iOS requirement (8.0 vs 15.0). On rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Epson DocumentScan is free to download; Calculators XL costs $2.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Calculators XL holds the better App Store score, 2.0 against 1.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Epson DocumentScan has 121 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of Calculators XL's written reviews are positive against 11% of Epson DocumentScan's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Calculators XL ships an update every 25 months, Epson DocumentScan every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on June 5, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
