# Chess vs Chess without ads

The clearest difference is ads: Chess without ads at none against Chess's shown. Chess without ads also leads on ratings volume (39K vs 1.6K). Chess's advantage is update cadence (every 5 days vs fortnightly). On price, rating, review sentiment and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chess sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Chess without ads sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $0.49 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Chess against 4.7 for Chess without ads. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess without ads has 39K ratings behind it against 1.6K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 90% and 91% positive.

Chess ships an update every 5 days, Chess without ads fortnightly. Both last shipped on October 29, 2026.
