# Fox Illinois vs Extra News

The clearest difference is rating: Fox Illinois at 5.0 against Extra News's 4.2. Fox Illinois also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 4 months) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). Extra News's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (25 vs 1). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Fox Illinois holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Extra News has 25 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

Fox Illinois ships an update fortnightly, Extra News every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and November 1, 2026 respectively.
