# Light vs Flashlight

The clearest difference is rating: Flashlight at 4.9 against Light's 3.3. Flashlight also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 3) and ratings volume (99K vs 3.4K). Light's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (7.0 vs 15.0). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Light sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Flashlight asks for nothing beyond the download.

Flashlight holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Flashlight has 99K ratings behind it against 3.4K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 93% of Light's written reviews are positive against 90% of Flashlight's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Light ships an update every 5 months, Flashlight every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
