# Disc Search vs MotorTrend

The clearest difference is rating: MotorTrend at 4.8 against Disc Search's 4.0. MotorTrend also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 7 months) and ratings volume (56K vs 10). Disc Search's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 10) and review sentiment (67% vs 40%). On price, ads and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MotorTrend sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Disc Search asks for nothing beyond the download.

MotorTrend holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MotorTrend has 56K ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Disc Search's written reviews are positive against 40% of MotorTrend's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Disc Search ships an update every 7 months, MotorTrend monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
