# Castanet vs Darkhorse Press

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Darkhorse Press at 67% against Castanet's 19%. Darkhorse Press also leads on ratings volume (9 vs 1). Castanet's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 32 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Castanet holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Darkhorse Press has 9 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 19% of Castanet's written reviews are positive against 67% of Darkhorse Press's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Castanet ships an update every 6 weeks, Darkhorse Press every 32 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
