# Backgrounds! vs Firsts

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Firsts at 100% against Backgrounds!'s 54%. Firsts also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.0) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 6 months). Backgrounds!'s advantage is ratings volume (14 vs 1) and iOS requirement (4.3 vs 17.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Backgrounds! sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Firsts sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.69 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Firsts holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Backgrounds! has 14 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 54% of Backgrounds!'s written reviews are positive against 100% of Firsts's.

Backgrounds! ships an update every 6 months, Firsts fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 9, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
