# Avenza Maps vs Offroadr

Avenza Maps and Offroadr both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 92% of Offroadr's written reviews are positive against 51% of Avenza Maps's. Offroadr also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 18.0). Avenza Maps's advantage is ratings volume (128K vs 27) and chart position (#17 vs unranked). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Avenza Maps sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $34.99 per year and Offroadr sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $11.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Avenza Maps holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Avenza Maps has 128K ratings behind it against 27, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 51% of Avenza Maps's written reviews are positive against 92% of Offroadr's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Avenza Maps ships an update every 2 months, Offroadr every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 7, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
