# Shogi Live vs Pro Shogi

The clearest difference is rating: Shogi Live at 4.9 against Pro Shogi's 4.2. Shogi Live also leads on review sentiment (62% vs 41%) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.6). Pro Shogi's advantage is monetization model (free vs subscription) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 6 weeks). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Shogi Live sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and Pro Shogi sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Shogi Live holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.2. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 27 and 10 respectively. Written reviews point the same way: 62% of Shogi Live's written reviews are positive against 41% of Pro Shogi's.

Shogi Live ships an update every 6 weeks, Pro Shogi every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on November 1, 2026.
