# SimpleChess vs Online Chess LiveGames

The clearest difference is rating: SimpleChess at 4.0 against Online Chess LiveGames's 1.0. SimpleChess also leads on update cadence (every 8 days vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (8 vs 1). Online Chess LiveGames's advantage is review sentiment (82% vs 53%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. SimpleChess sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Online Chess LiveGames sells 9 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

SimpleChess holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SimpleChess has 8 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 53% of SimpleChess's written reviews are positive against 82% of Online Chess LiveGames's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

SimpleChess ships an update every 8 days, Online Chess LiveGames every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
