# SimpleChess vs Chess960 ™

The clearest difference is review sentiment: SimpleChess at 53% against Chess960 ™'s 0%. SimpleChess also leads on update cadence (every 8 days vs every 10 months). Chess960 ™'s advantage is rating (4.4 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (61 vs 8). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. SimpleChess sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Chess960 ™ sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Chess960 ™ holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess960 ™ has 61 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 53% of SimpleChess's written reviews are positive against 0% of Chess960 ™'s, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

SimpleChess ships an update every 8 days, Chess960 ™ every 10 months. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
