# Flashlight ¤ vs Notepad

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Flashlight ¤ at none against Notepad's 7. Flashlight ¤ also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 18.0). Notepad's advantage is update cadence (every 8 days vs every 5 months) and rating (4.8 vs 4.5). On price, review sentiment and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Notepad sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Flashlight ¤ asks for nothing beyond the download.

Notepad holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Notepad has 28K ratings behind it against 4.1K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 88% of Flashlight ¤'s written reviews are positive against 84% of Notepad's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Flashlight ¤ ships an update every 5 months, Notepad every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
