# Breaking News vs Ruby

The clearest difference is ads: Ruby at none against Breaking News's shown. Ruby also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and device support (5 vs 3). Breaking News's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (10K vs 4). On price, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Breaking News sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Ruby sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Ruby holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Breaking News has 10K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 71% of Breaking News's written reviews are positive against 50% of Ruby's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Breaking News ships an update every 3 weeks, Ruby every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on November 4, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
