# The Marimo vs Seal Pet

The clearest difference is update cadence: Seal Pet at monthly against The Marimo's every 3 months. Seal Pet also leads on rating (4.6 vs 4.4) and ratings volume (192 vs 16). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Seal Pet holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Seal Pet has 192 ratings behind it against 16, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 79% of The Marimo's written reviews are positive against 76% of Seal Pet's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

The Marimo ships an update every 3 months, Seal Pet monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
