# Splice vs Clippy

The clearest difference is monetization model: Clippy at free with in-app purchases against Splice's subscription. Clippy also leads on iOS requirement (11.0 vs 14.0). Splice's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (431K vs 201). On price, rating, review sentiment and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Splice sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days and Clippy sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Splice against 4.6 for Clippy. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Splice has 431K ratings behind it against 201, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 71% of Splice's written reviews are positive against 65% of Clippy's.

Splice ships an update fortnightly, Clippy every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
