# Splice vs Video Editor Effects

Splice and Video Editor Effects both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 71% of Splice's written reviews are positive against 13% of Video Editor Effects's. Splice also leads on ratings volume (431K vs 875) and chart position (#15 vs unranked). Video Editor Effects's advantage is monetization model (freemium vs subscription) and update cadence (every 6 days vs fortnightly). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Splice sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days and Video Editor Effects sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Splice against 4.6 for Video Editor Effects. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Splice has 431K ratings behind it against 875, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 71% of Splice's written reviews are positive against 13% of Video Editor Effects's.

Splice ships an update fortnightly, Video Editor Effects every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on October 28, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
