# Splice vs Video Editor ®

The clearest difference is monetization model: Video Editor ® at free with in-app purchases against Splice's subscription. Splice's advantage is ratings volume (431K vs 2.1K) and chart position (#16 vs unranked). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Splice sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days and Video Editor ® sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Splice against 4.6 for Video Editor ®. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Splice has 431K ratings behind it against 2.1K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 71% of Splice's written reviews are positive against 60% of Video Editor ®'s.

Splice ships an update fortnightly, Video Editor ® every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
