# WeChat vs Soul

The clearest difference is rating: Soul at 4.6 against WeChat's 3.9. Soul also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks). WeChat's advantage is ratings volume (81K vs 10K) and chart position (#19 vs #107). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. WeChat sells 10 one-off in-app purchases and Soul sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Soul holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: WeChat has 81K ratings behind it against 10K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 32% of WeChat's written reviews are positive against 28% of Soul's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

WeChat ships an update every 3 weeks, Soul weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
