# WeChat vs Whisper

The clearest difference is rating: WeChat at 3.9 against Whisper's 3.1. WeChat also leads on ratings volume (82K vs 16) and review sentiment (31% vs 14%). Whisper's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 11) and ads (none vs shown). On price and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. WeChat sells 10 one-off in-app purchases. Whisper asks for nothing beyond the download.

WeChat holds the better App Store score, 3.9 against 3.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: WeChat has 82K ratings behind it against 16, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 31% of WeChat's written reviews are positive against 14% of Whisper's.

WeChat ships an update every 3 weeks, Whisper every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
