# WeChat vs QQ

The clearest difference is rating: WeChat at 3.9 against QQ's 2.7. WeChat also leads on review sentiment (32% vs 18%) and ratings volume (81K vs 9K). QQ's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 3 weeks). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. WeChat sells 10 one-off in-app purchases and QQ sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

WeChat holds the better App Store score, 3.9 against 2.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: WeChat has 81K ratings behind it against 9K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 32% of WeChat's written reviews are positive against 18% of QQ's.

WeChat ships an update every 3 weeks, QQ every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on October 13, 2026.
