# READING MAGIC vs Primary Writer

The clearest difference is rating: READING MAGIC at 4.6 against Primary Writer's 4.0. READING MAGIC also leads on ratings volume (42 vs 5) and device support (3 vs 1). Primary Writer's advantage is update cadence (every 2 months vs every 6 months) and review sentiment (75% vs 62%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. READING MAGIC sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Primary Writer sells 8 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

READING MAGIC holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: READING MAGIC has 42 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 62% of READING MAGIC's written reviews are positive against 75% of Primary Writer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

READING MAGIC ships an update every 6 months, Primary Writer every 2 months. Both last shipped on November 1, 2026.
