# READING MAGIC vs Kindergarten

READING MAGIC and Kindergarten both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 85% of Kindergarten's written reviews are positive against 62% of READING MAGIC's. Kindergarten also leads on ratings volume (306 vs 41) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 13.7). READING MAGIC's advantage is update cadence (every 6 months vs every 18 months). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. READING MAGIC sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Kindergarten sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

READING MAGIC holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Kindergarten has 306 ratings behind it against 41, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 62% of READING MAGIC's written reviews are positive against 85% of Kindergarten's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

READING MAGIC ships an update every 6 months, Kindergarten every 18 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
