# Xfinity Home vs VLC DE

The clearest difference is rating: VLC DE at 5.0 against Xfinity Home's 4.3. VLC DE also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Xfinity Home's advantage is ratings volume (12K vs 7). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

VLC DE holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Xfinity Home has 12K ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Xfinity Home ships an update every 2 months, VLC DE every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
