# TimerZ vs Hourglass

The clearest difference is rating: TimerZ at 4.7 against Hourglass's 4.0. Hourglass's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 2) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months). On price, ratings volume, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. TimerZ sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Hourglass asks for nothing beyond the download.

TimerZ holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 10 and 4 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 62% of TimerZ's written reviews are positive against 80% of Hourglass's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

TimerZ ships an update every 3 months, Hourglass fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
