# PETA vs Elephant Journal

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: PETA at none against Elephant Journal's 4. PETA also leads on review sentiment (95% vs 84%) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 26.0). Elephant Journal's advantage is ratings volume (14K vs 1.6K) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, rating, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Elephant Journal sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. PETA asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for PETA against 4.9 for Elephant Journal. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Elephant Journal has 14K ratings behind it against 1.6K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 95% of PETA's written reviews are positive against 84% of Elephant Journal's.

PETA ships an update every 2 months, Elephant Journal every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 6, 2026 respectively.
