# iNaturalist Classic vs OpenLitterMap

The clearest difference is rating: iNaturalist Classic at 4.6 against OpenLitterMap's 3.6. iNaturalist Classic also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (4.7K vs 9). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

iNaturalist Classic holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: iNaturalist Classic has 4.7K ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 82% of iNaturalist Classic's written reviews are positive against 83% of OpenLitterMap's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

iNaturalist Classic ships an update every 5 weeks, OpenLitterMap every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 28, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
