# Minesweeper! vs Minimal Minesweeper

The clearest difference is monetization model: Minimal Minesweeper at free against Minesweeper!'s free with in-app purchases. Minimal Minesweeper also leads on rating (4.8 vs 4.5) and update cadence (monthly vs every 4 months). Minesweeper!'s advantage is ratings volume (1.7K vs 8) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Minesweeper! sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Minimal Minesweeper sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Minimal Minesweeper holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Minesweeper! has 1.7K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 68% of Minesweeper!'s written reviews are positive against 80% of Minimal Minesweeper's.

Minesweeper! ships an update every 4 months, Minimal Minesweeper monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and September 24, 2026 respectively.
