# CMC Field Guide vs Mission Critical Protocols

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: CMC Field Guide at none against Mission Critical Protocols's 4. Mission Critical Protocols's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 4.0) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Mission Critical Protocols sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. CMC Field Guide asks for nothing beyond the download.

Mission Critical Protocols holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 24 and 15 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 78% of CMC Field Guide's written reviews are positive against 75% of Mission Critical Protocols's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

CMC Field Guide ships an update every 3 months, Mission Critical Protocols every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
