# CLEP vs American Government Test Prep

The clearest difference is monetization model: American Government Test Prep at free with in-app purchases against CLEP's subscription. American Government Test Prep also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7). CLEP's advantage is ratings volume (59 vs 3) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CLEP sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per month and American Government Test Prep sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

American Government Test Prep holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: CLEP has 59 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two.

CLEP ships an update every 7 months, American Government Test Prep every 6 months. The most recent releases landed on November 5, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
