# CLEP vs College Tool

The clearest difference is monetization model: College Tool at freemium against CLEP's subscription. College Tool also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 7 months) and review sentiment (100% vs 78%). CLEP's advantage is ratings volume (51 vs 4) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CLEP sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per month and College Tool sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $17.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

College Tool holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: CLEP has 51 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 78% of CLEP's written reviews are positive against 100% of College Tool's.

CLEP ships an update every 7 months, College Tool every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
