# GRE vs GRE Math by Sherpa Prep

The clearest difference is update cadence: GRE Math by Sherpa Prep at every 3 weeks against GRE's every 6 months. GRE Math by Sherpa Prep also leads on review sentiment (98% vs 78%). GRE's advantage is rating (4.9 vs 4.6). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. GRE sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per month and GRE Math by Sherpa Prep sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

GRE holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.6. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 172 and 61 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 78% of GRE's written reviews are positive against 98% of GRE Math by Sherpa Prep's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

GRE ships an update every 6 months, GRE Math by Sherpa Prep every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
