# Smartschool vs ObsIdentify

The clearest difference is review sentiment: ObsIdentify at 58% against Smartschool's 14%. Smartschool's advantage is rating (3.8 vs 2.0) and ratings volume (504 vs 5). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Smartschool holds the better App Store score, 3.8 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Smartschool has 504 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 14% of Smartschool's written reviews are positive against 58% of ObsIdentify's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Smartschool ships an update every 5 days, ObsIdentify every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
